The Story of the BOKKE Artwork...
I really wanted to create an artwork remembering, what I hoped would be, another win for the BOKKE!
I started the artwork while we were still in the group stages and completed it the day after our win, adding the final score, who we played against and the date into the gap I had left.
When coming up with the design, I wanted it to be an interactive piece and a SQUIGGLES artwork would do the job perfectly!
With this style, I was able to add all the All 35 players / the full coaching staff / dates of every match we played + all our scores / meaningful words / all 33 sponsors and our National Anthem into the background and use our beautiful Springbok as the featured gold leaf image.
After completing the background and Springbok, I started by putting all the "words" I wanted highlighted throughout the artwork. Once those were down I could fill the spaces between with all the squiggles, leaving a few gaps to add the scores, dates and places of the quarters, semis and the main event, the FINAL!
Obviously no one would want an artwork remembering a game we lost, so I painted this piece on a wing and a prayer and FAITH that the BOKKE had this in the bag!! After a solid 30 days of painting, a minimum of 8 hours a day, that final whistle couldn't have been blown soon enough for me!
I had been sharing my progress on social media and said that the original was up for sale, but nobody was going to buy until (and if) we won - well the artwork sold 30 seconds after the final whistle!!! Relief (and so much gratitude!)
After so much support and an overwhelming amount of interest, I decided to release an A1 and A3 limited edition print of the artwork. Each print would have 23ct Gold Leaf applied to the springbok so that the prints were exact little replicas of the original.
One of these prints was delivered to the man and our legend, Rassie Erasmus!
